So the "big news" today is that one of our also rans had an affair. I can already hear the corporate media pundits talking about what horrible news this is for Barack Obama because it somehow reflects poorly on Democrats that one of their also rans had an affair. Nevermind the fact that Barack Obama is by all accounts the epitomy of what a family man is supposed to be, while John McCain admits that had an affair with Cindy while still married to his first wife who was disfigured in an automobile accident.
I realize that most of the people in this community already know the ugly details of John McCain's affair with Cindy, but most Americans don't because it has been given scant attention by the corporate media. Arguably it isn't all that relevant to this election since it involves John McCain's personal life. This argument was the one that we made in defense of Bill Clinton, and I must admit that I am certainly sympathetic to the argument. After all, many of Presidents have had affairs, and shouldn't we be focusing on issues that actually affect the American public like the economy, the Iraq war, the energy crisis, health care, ect. But if the corporate media is going to make headlines about one of our also runs having an affair, isn't it only fair that they give some coverage to John McCain's escapades? These escapades have been given scant attention by the corporate media. In fact, in this story by ABC News, which is featured alongside with the John Edwards affair story, they list 15 political sex scandals. Yet, conspicuously absent from this list of sex scandals is John McCain's sexual escapades. As a result of this scant attention, the vast majority of low information voters have no idea that John McCain is a filanderer.
Folks it's time to let the corporate media know about their double standards. If they are going to cover the personal lives of one of our also rans with such intensity, then it's high time that they inform the American public about the fact that the GOP's nominee for President is a filanderer.
