The Presidential debate in Belmont is going to be a Town Hall style debate where Americans can submit their questions through myspace.com. I personally liked the youtube debates during the primaries, and if this is going to be anything like those, then I think it will be beneficial (minus some of the sillier videos that they played because this is no time to laugh although SNL's skit last night was hillarious). So here is my suggestion, as a community we should all submit questions on substantive issues that we are most passionate about.
More below the fold. . . .
If we all submit questions on important substantive issues, then the chances are much better that the debate will be driven by the issues that affect us all. As we all know, Senator Obama is at his best when the focus is on real issues that effect the American people like health care, the economy, and foreign policy. I'm sure that the GOP hopes that the debates will be on something other than the issues because they know that when the focus turns to issues, Obama wins. Here's the question that I am going to submit:
My name is _____________, and I’m from Knoxville, Tennessee. As a self-employed, small business owner who is also saddled with student loan debt, I can testify to the fact that health insurance premiums are going through the roof, and if the premiums continue to skyrocket as they have the past few years, I may not be able to afford health insurance for myself or my family. What will your administration do to make health insurance affordable to the self-employed?
I figure that if enough of us submit questions on substantive policy issues like the economy, health care, the climate crisis, the energy crisis, and foreign policy, the chances that this debate will focus on substance rather than style will increase dramatically. If the debate focus in on substance rather than style, I believe that our candidate will win easily. Feel free to post your questions in this thread.
